【徵求英語義工】Volunteer Workers Wanted in 2010
SUBJECT: 一起為台灣主辦2010年第七屆IPWSO(乃小胖威利的國際組織,全名為International Prader-Willi Syndrome Organization)國際年會而努力。林炫沛醫師 (Shane Lin) 與林翔宇醫師 (Steven Lin) 皆為 Formosa Toastmasters Club 會員。
IPWSO成立於1991年,目前已有81個會員國,總部設於義大利,負責人為現任理事長Dr. Shuan-Pei Shane Lin。 該組織每三年開一次世界年會,第六屆的IPWSO年會於2007年6月21日至24日在羅馬尼亞召開,馬偕醫院小兒遺傳科主任林炫沛醫師當年是該國際組織的理事及亞洲代表,林醫師和其他醫師協同台灣小胖威利協會一起努力爭取2010年國際年會的主辦權,經過一番波折與激烈競爭,終於如願以償獲得成功。

2007年6月19日我與罕見疾病基金會執行長曾教授一同搭乘荷蘭航空啟程,原本預計分別在阿姆斯特丹及維也納轉機,再搭乘羅馬尼亞航空至大會地點Cluj-Napoca。不料在阿姆斯特丹等候轉機時被荷蘭海關人員阻擋,以曾教授與我均未辦理申根簽證為由,欲將我們「原機遣返台灣」。幾經折衝尊俎,充分解釋說明我們先前並不知單純「轉機」至維也納也須辦理申根簽證,並提出大會邀請函證明此行的正當目的,才在荷蘭海關人員的充分理解下,陪同至荷蘭航空櫃台改訂至羅馬尼亞首都布加勒斯特的機票,由於布加勒斯特至大會地點Cluj-Napoca相距500公里,且兩天內的機票均已售完,為了儘早到達大會地點Cluj-Napoca,曾教授與我討論後決定搭乘8小時的深夜火車,連夜趕往大會會場。
幾經長途跋涉,終於在6月21日上午準時趕上大會開幕,前三天是普瑞德-威利氏症候群學術研討會,第四天是罕見疾病研討會。由於普瑞德-威利氏症候群是一種複雜的神經、行為及內分泌系統的疾病,本次大會議題廣泛,包含基礎醫學、臨床醫學及社會服務層面。論文主題則涵蓋此症的臨床表現、診斷及生長激素治療在全身各方面的影響。令人印象深刻的是歐美先進國家在各研究領域的資源整合,已達爐火純青的地步,可充分研究分析此症在全身各器官系統的表現。另外歐洲各國的跨國合作與資料統整能力也令人佩服。
第三天傍晚是國際普瑞德威利氏症候群組織(IPWSO)的全體會員國大會,此時亦需決定下一屆(2010年)國際普瑞德-威利氏症候群學術研討會的主辦國。這次角逐者有台灣及英國,英國代表以其會員國的悠久歷史及崇高的學術地位為籌碼爭取選票,林炫沛醫師則代表台灣發表演說,真誠地邀請各國來台(Visit Taiwan, Explore Asia!),並展現了我們多年來對普瑞德-威利氏症候群病患的具體治療與照顧成果。所有會員國代表經過熱烈的討論與台上台下Q & A,票選結果出爐,台灣以些微之差勝出,外交處境艱困的我們竟能擊敗歷史悠久的英國,令林醫師、曾教授與我三位台灣代表喜出望外,並倍感光榮地接受眾多友好與會代表的祝賀。

用愛填滿中秋 您買一盒 我捐10元 八八水災淹沒了家園、淹沒了心愛的人,今年的中秋節多少人將淚眼望月,寄望夢中團圓。 「第一烘焙屋」在8月18日下午開班會,小嘉說:看很多人回不了家很難過;小毅說:覺得很可憐,沒有家可以住;看到大家都踴躍出錢出力幫助災區同胞,於是他們也開始認真討論:我們可以做什麼?
經過七嘴八舌的熱列討論,最後「第一烘焙屋」的老師和同學們決定要努力做月餅、賣月餅,每賣出一盒將捐出10元,支持「世界展望會」協助災區重建家園。 敬請大家踴躍支持訂購,支持心智障礙青年工作訓練,也為災區的朋友們加油。 「第一烘焙屋」將參加內政部所辦理的「2009身心障礙福利機構及團體秋節產品禮盒聯合促銷展示記者會」,我們提供20盒「花開迎月」中秋禮盒義賣,所得亦將全數捐出協助災區重建。

Dear fellow Toastmasters,
NCBTC and Fluency Toastmasters Clubs sincerely invite you to our joint meeting, which features a one-hour English Keynote Speech by the mayor of Taichung City, Jason Hu. The meeting will be held from 6:45 PM to 9:15 PM, August 24th, at Windsor Hotel Taichung (台中裕元花園酒店).
Many members remember the mayor's humorous and sensational speech four years ago. As a man of wisdom, the mayor can lend us his experiences in many ways. This year he is going to share with us his ambition "To Grow a City with Creativity." You cannot afford to miss such a great speech.
NCBTC and Fluency are, among many others, devoted Toastmasters Clubs who promote public speaking skills. We get together twice a month for warm, intellect stimulating and fun gatherings in which each of the members has an equal opportunity for sharing his/her mind. We have a wide variety of members, including teachers, businesspersons, engineers, salespersons, to name just a few. We welcome anyone to come to our meeting to personally experience the true fulfilling moment.

Your assignment is to count the votes for Joke Tellers, Table Topics Speakers, Prepared Speech Speakers, Individual Evaluators and the Most Improved Speakers and write the names of the winners on the certificates.
Before the meeting:
1. Write the names of Prepared Speech Speakers and Individual Evaluators on the whiteboard before the meeting and write the names of Joke Tellers and Table Topics Speakers during these two sessions.
2. Give the ballots to each member and guest.
During the Meeting:
